چکیده

This prospective study compares the effect of two viscoelastic agents (Viscoat and Provisc) on an early postoperative intraocular pressure after phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation. The study compares 36 patients with senile cataract. Intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured by standard Goldmann aplanation tonometry preoperatively as well as on the first postoperative day, after 24 hours and 1 week postoperatively. The mean postoperative IOP at first postoperative day in the Viscoat group was 24.2 mmHg and in the Provisc group was 21.2 mmHg. The increase was significantly higher in the Viscoat group than in the Provisc group but after 24 hours and 1 week postoperatively the mean IOP was not statisticaly different. The two viscoelastic agents cause equivalent pressure elevation postoperatively.

The effect of low dose of ketamine on intraocular pressure in patients undergoing cataract surgery

Background: Cataract surgery is one of the most common surgeries in the world, especially in elderly patients, and often performed topically with sedative agents. Ketamine is one of the most commonly used agents and the effect of different doses on intraocular pressure is in dispute. The present study investigates the effect of a low dose of ketamine on intraocular pressure in patients undergoi...

Effects of concomitant administration of latanoprost and pilocarpine on the intraocular pressure of experimentally glaucomatous rabbits

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a combination of latanoprost and pilocarpine onthe intraocular pressure in experimentally glaucomatous rabbits. Ocular hypertension was induced in 11conscious rabbits by the oral administration of tap water (70 mL/kg) via an orogastric tube. The study wasconducted in three therapeutic groups to test the effects of latanoprost (group L), p...

Comparing the Effect of Laryngeal Mask Airway And Endotracheal Tube Insertion on Intraocular Pressure in Cataract Surgery

Background and purpose: The method of anesthesia affects intraocular pressure (IOP), especially general anesthesia which is sometimes administered with endotracheal tube (ETT) insertion. The aim of this research was to compare the effect of laryngeal mask airway (LMA) and ETT on intraocular pressure in cataract surgery. Materials and methods: In a single blind randomized clinical trial, 61 pat...
